Silvia Gil

Silvia has over 15 years of experience working to promote inclusion for neurodiverse individuals. Silvia’s dream is to foster the creation of environments designed to promote the well-being and productivity for all by bringing awareness to an underserved and misunderstood population. It is this combination of her love of environment building with her knack for not only finding solutions, but seeing them through, that lead to the creation of NCS.

Silvia received her bachelor’s and master’s of science in special education from Florida International University. There, she began developing her foundation in the neurodiverse community. Silvia began her career as a special education teacher where she fostered her passion and honed her skills for building effective supports for her students. These skills were further developed through her time working as an educational case manager and eventually the manager of the transition and adult division for a non-profit focused on individuals with autism and related disabilities.

Having worked with non-profits and individual families, to fortune 500 companies and premier academic institutions, Silvia understands the benefits companies and communities stand to gain by accommodating and embracing the neurodiverse population.

Community Engagement Manager

Haley Moss

Haley Moss may have made headlines as Florida's first openly autistic attorney, but her passion for disability rights and justice began way before that. After falling into advocacy as a teenager sharing her experiences as a young autistic person (and then writing her first book), Haley realized there was so much more to do in amplifying the voices of autistic people, their hopes, dreams, desires, and needs. Entering the workforce galvanized her into how underrepresented people with disabilities, autism especially, were in law practice and many other professions.

Fast forward, and Haley mostly spends her time crafting workplace policy solutions, speaking on neurodiversity and dismantling ableism, and geeking out wherever the law, policy, disability rights and accessibility intersect. Or she's writing another book. For Haley, neurodiversity acceptance and action is where her personal and professional expertise blend together. To her, the future is a place where everyone is welcomed, accepted, and is fully inclusive and accessible.

Outside of work, you can probably find Haley playing video games, reading young adult fiction, planning her next visit to Disney, drawing, or jamming out to Taylor Swift tunes.

Lisa Smith

NCS Consultant: Neurodiversity Expert

My name is Lisa Smith. I prefer to go by Lisa. I have ASD which means I have autism. I love to smile because I love life. I love to laugh and make others laugh too. Life can be hard and I believe that if I can make an impact for good to make a difference—chin up—everything will be ok. Being a force of good in someone’s life is my heart’s desire. I live by the following motto: "Where there is a will there's a way if you dare to dream try". I love to write. Fun fact, I learned to write before I could speak. I think I had language before language found me.

I also have a different way of looking at things. And that is ok. If we were all the same, the world would be a much less interesting place.  I am me and the me you see is the me that I am. My goal is for inclusion to spread like fire throughout the world so that no one will be left behind. I joined NCS to help its mission of fostering a more inclusive world. I am proud to further NCS’ objectives by providing my perspective as a neurodiverse individual. Everyone should have a place in the community and have their voice heard. Real inclusion means EVERYONE has a voice no matter how they use it and no matter if the only way they can be heard is through written word, song, dance, sign, or through an AAC device. NO one left behind!

Alicia Palelis

For over 20 years, Alicia has been working with complex learners and teaching behavior to enhance the educational experience of neurodiverse learners. Alicia continues to share her passion for teaching others about autism and those with special needs. She created Autism and Exceptional Learner Elements and co-founded Autism Elements to extend her reach worldwide. She is now able to offer training, online courses, consultation and resources to anyone that is interested in learning more ways to educate.

Alicia received her Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Special Education & Master's Degree in Education from the University of Florida. Alicia began her career as a special education preschool teacher for students with autism where she fostered her passion and created effective supports and learning opportunities for her students to make significant progress and learning gains in all areas- academics, social skills, independence and communication. Alicia found herself naturally sharing about the unique abilities and needs of her students and how to support and teach those students and transitioned to the role of Autism Coach and then Behavior Program Specialist in the 6th largest district in the nation.

Having worked with educators, administrators, and individual families, Alicia understands the needs of both schools and families and works to build the bridge between home and school to help students be successful and happy.
